Schweppes Burst Self-ComBursts →
Paul Isakson had an interesting reaction to the Schweppes ‘Burst’ TV ad I linked to a few weeks ago. His blog post about how Schweppes failed to capitalize on the Schweppervescence experience will appeal to anyone interested in the evolution of marketing and advertising strategy and execution in today’s world.

Ticket Packages for the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival
The TFF has taken a truly inventive approach to ticket packages for this year’s festival. My favorites are the $75 themed packages for 1 or 2 people. For example, the Competition Film Package includes 6 tickets, which can be purchased as 1 ticket to 6 screenings or 2 tickets to 3 screenings. This kind of packaging makes the festival much more accessible for locals and non-industry folks....

Anamorph trailer: leaked online about 24 hours... →
Posted on YouTube before the proverbial paint was dry.  There are a limited number of sources this could have come from, and it certainly wasn’t me or my team.  I have my suspicions, but I’ll keep them to myself.  I’m flattered people find it leak-worthy in the first place!

I’m in.  Side effect of not having gone to a Pac10 college back in the day, I suppose, combined with a general dislike of basketball, which in itself is a side effect of having had to run lines when I played as a kid.  Still haven’t forgiven my coach/dad for that. therealjanelle: you’re not alone. let’s start a support group. we can meet in bars that don’t have televisions. ...

mattlehrer: I watched the 2007 Palme d’Or winner, 4 LUNI, 3 SEPTAMANI SI 2 ZILE, last night. That is an intense movie. I think that whatever your opinion on Roe v Wade, you will probably strengthen your opinion after watching this movie. I don’t want to say too much but I’m very thankful we live in a country post Roe v Wade. Don’t be scared; see it. The tumblr feedback loop can be incredibly...

My old colleague, Elon Musk, hangin’ with Sir Richard, Tony Blair, Larry Page and Vinod Khosla on Necker Island, talkin’ ‘bout global warming. Talk about movin’ on up. This bit made me chuckle: “The Medusa, the 198-foot, or 60-meter, yacht owned by Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft, was moored off Necker Island all weekend, but Allen never came ashore.”

I got nothin’. “Portugal is one of those words that, if I repeat it over and over again, loses it’s meaning.  Have you ever done that?” Yes!  With the word “weird,” weirdly, which is also the word that comes...

Beyond The Art House: Indies Find Theatrical... →
Interesting article about independent films finding audiences at atypical theatrical venues, and the changes these venue managers are making to enable theatrical screenings (e.g., HD projection, turning small offices into small screening rooms).  Helping specialty films find their audience is a daunting task; I’m all for anything that gets great films like CHOP SHOP or 4 MONTHS 3 WEEKS AND 2...

Manohla Dargis’ amazing review of PARANOID PARK in today’s New York Times.  Can’t decide which quote is my favorite: Like most of Mr. Van Sant’s films PARANOID PARK is about bodies at rest and in motion, and about longing, beauty, youth and death, and as such as much about the artist as his subject. It is a modestly scaled triumph without a false or wasted moment. PARANOID...

Christophe Honoré is a talented young French director telling decidely post-modern stories. LOVE SONGS, his latest, is a vibrant, romantic musical about three young lovers starring the delicious Louis Garrel, and one of my favorite films on the IFC slate this year. It’s uplifting and heart-breaking as only French cinema can be. Honoré and Garrel are in town this weekend for the...
