Sam Cooke - Bring It On Home To Me
Songs like this one just aren’t written anymore. Taken from us waaay too early, Sam Cooke did things his own way with his immediately recognizable voice. Some people contend that the best music of all time was created from the mid-50s to the mid-70s, and I myself find it hard to disagree.
Listening to this set me off on an hour-long downloading session of late 50s and early 60s Doo-wop, R&B and soul — the music my dad listened to in college, basically, like Ben E. King, The Platters, The Lettermen, and a ton more Sam Cooke. All are songs I’ve heard dozens of times before, but this morning, with a mug of coffee in hand and sunlight streaming through the window, it felt refreshingly new and comfortingly nostalgic at once. Great music stands the test of time. Thanks, Tunage, for the reminder.
