“Technology and social media have created a moment of transformation for TV. It’s a DVR killer because you have to watch live in order to participate.”
Jason Klarman, General Manager of Oxygen, in ADWEEK: ‘Watercooler’ Chats Spread to the Home.
I don’t agree that it’s a DVR killer, but it can be a momentary social media killer. If I can’t be home to watch a show at the appointed time — LOST, for example — I’ll avoid Twitter and Facebook to ensure I don’t read any spoilers. But I’ll still DVR the episode so I can experience it and talk about it later, especially at the office watercooler the next day.
