Hi! I'm Lisa. I work in TV and film as writer, producer & editor. This is my blog about the work I do and the news, trends and technologies that touch it. With the occasional totally unrelated bits thrown in.

On initial inspection, one thing Vimeo has over Veoh is the ability to customize several attributes of the embedded file, such as the color of the metadata (reddish fuschia, to match my site design) and the size of the file (although this is easily accomplished with either object by changing the width/height parameters in the code). I love that Vimeo overlays the metadata onto the video clip and hyperlinks the text. This allowed me to deleted the caption that is included with each object, making for a cleaner site overall (I deleted Veoh’s too). The Veoh player inserts their gigantic turquoise “play” graphic over the center of your image and their logo in the lower right-hand corner, forcing their branding on you. Annoying. The thumbnail image is darker, too. The default frame size of the Veoh video is 540x438, so I reduced it to 480x360 to fit on my site. The clip now displays pillarboxed within the object, which doesn’t look as good. With the Vimeo object, the clip bleeds to the edge of the player window as it should.
One thing Veoh can do that Vimeo should consider is the ability (for pro accounts) to syndicate your videos to YouTube, MySpace and Google Video. This feature alone is the reason we’re using Veoh at work to distribute our content online.
